Privacy Policy for Autograph
August 5, 2026 Last updated: August 5, 2026
Autograph (“the App”) is developed by Tim Williams as a music notation app for iPad and Mac.
Information Collection and Use
The App does not collect, store, transmit, or share any personal information from users.
- No user data is collected by the developer.
- No analytics or tracking services are used.
- No advertising identifiers are used, and the App does not track you across apps or websites.
- The App has no accounts and no sign-in.
- The App contacts no servers of its own.
Your Scores
The scores you write are your own documents. They are stored on your device, and — if you choose to keep them in iCloud Drive — in your own iCloud account, under your own Apple ID.
Apple provides that storage. The developer has no access to your iCloud account and never receives your scores unless you deliberately send them (see Diagnostics below).
If you use Handoff to move between your iPad and your Mac, the two devices exchange the location of the document you are editing so the other device can open the same file from your iCloud. The music itself travels through your iCloud account, not through the developer.
Diagnostics — off by default
The App includes an optional diagnostic recorder, found under Score Details as Record handwriting. It is switched off unless you turn it on.
While it is on, the App keeps:
- the raw pen strokes of each attempt at writing a symbol, and what the recogniser made of them;
- the MIDI notes played during the session.
This exists so that a mark or a key the App read wrongly can be replayed and the recognition improved.
This information stays on your device and, so that it reaches your other devices, is copied to your own iCloud account. It is not sent to the developer. It reaches the developer only if you choose to share it yourself, using the share button in Score Details or by sending a problem report.
Before anything is sent, the App tells you on screen exactly what the report contains — your score, the app and system version, and, when the recorder is on, the recorded strokes and MIDI notes. Nothing is sent without that being shown to you first.
You can delete individual recorded attempts, or clear the whole log, at any time.
Permissions
The App requests no access to personal data. It does not use the microphone, the camera, your location, your contacts, your photos, or any similar information.
It plays audio through the standard system audio output, and it can receive notes from a MIDI keyboard you have connected. Neither involves collecting or transmitting personal information.
Purchases
Editing is unlocked by a one-time in-app purchase. Purchases are handled entirely by Apple. The developer never receives your payment details, your Apple ID, or any other personal information about you — only Apple's confirmation that a purchase belongs to the device asking.
Third-Party Services
The App does not integrate with any third-party services, libraries, or frameworks that collect data. It uses no advertising networks and no analytics providers.
Children's Privacy
The App does not knowingly collect any personal information from children under the age of 13. It contains no content directed at children.
